The mystery of leadership

There is a constant fear in my head. One that seems to be coming to the forefront on my brain as I continue in my line of work. In Student Ministry, we give a lot of responsibility and expectation to a lot of people. We have volunteers that we lead, empower, encourage and release. However there is always a nagging question:

What if there is more going on that I don’t know about?

Have you ever asked that question?

Maybe it is about a staff member or another colleague or maybe a volunteer. It is one that determines the level of leadership you are willing and able to entrust to someone.

In my eyes, the bar of leadership for any student ministry volunteer is high.

We are entrusting not only for you to demonstrate and live a Godly life, but we are asking you to help lead and teach teenagers how to do the same.

There is something that I am realizing that I must do as a youth leader is find some:

Not only for my own life, but for the lives of my entrusted leaders.

I have been blessed with a great group of people that I get to lead and serve right alongside with. But even with how great they are, every single one of us in our lives, need accountability.

It is probably why James wrote:

“Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

James 5:13-16

How do you determine your level of leadership for volunteers?

Do you act as an accountability partner?
