forget the crap?
Last night I had the privilege of working with 6 very gifted students. However the night did not go as planned. There has been a growing painful situation throughout this group of six and it needs to come to an end.
Here is my reasoning: as a young student learning what it means to follow God with all of your life, the baggage that you hold onto will grow and grow until you cannot handle it anymore. Instead of letting it come to that place of rock bottom, work at getting rid of the baggage so that you can more forward and grow closer to God without anything in the way.
Maybe I am off, but I have been convicted that the drama that students will bring to the table, can and will deter them from really following after God’s calling. Am I wrong?
I think the main question is how do you get students to understand about the importance of discipleship in their own lives?
I personally know, that when I carry baggage with me, it is much harder for me to sit and focus on getting healthy on a spiritual level than when I do not have baggage.
John 15:9-10
” as the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as i have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love”
I read this verse last night and really got me to think that this is the key to discipleship. The understanding that Jesus obeyed his father and we are to obey Jesus’ teaching.
So I think the real question is how do you work with students to get them to an understanding of what discipleship is? How to become a disciple?
