Momentum Shift…
We have just returned from a week of high energy, high emotions and high’s of all kinds. Student Life took 18 students too Cleveland, TN to Lee University for the CIY Move conference. Move is a week specifically designed for High School age students. It is a week where lives are changed, decisions are made and groups are formed. It is a very interesting thing however, what this camp does. Move is always a great experience. This was my tenth year going to to a Move conference and it was one of the best week’s that I can remember going too. The speakers were great, the creative elements were great, the campus was great, the music….well lets just say you had to warm up to the music. In the end, the music along with the rest of the elements of the week combined to be one spectacular week of camp.
Now, back to the however, however, it is funny what this does in a youth minister’s mind. I am one that has always loved going to Move. Whether a student or a leader. Move is always a good time, but now that I am looking into the students lives from a different perspective, it has caused me to think a little differently about this week of camp. Move is created and executed with perfection(most of the time, mirror ball?), but like the leaders were told last week, “it is a live performance, not taped or done before hand, things happen and we have to move on from them.” So as a youth minister, there came a question in my head that when I thought about always comes up in my head after every Move event:
How do we keep this momentum going?
It is a tricky thing if you ask me. It is something that doesn’t happen naturally, it doesn’t happen without hard work. It is a question however that needs to be addressed in some form or fashion. Maybe I am wrong or maybe I am asking the wrong question.
I don’t know about you, but the decisions and commitments that can be made at a Move conference are huge in a student’s life. As youth workers, I feel compelled to help bring that momentum back to your every week youth groups after the CIY event.
What do you think?
How would you keep the momentum going?

Dude, I think you are spot on. How do you keep the momentum going is the million dollar question. We went to move in June and since then I have already witnessed student falling and going back into their normal routines. First, I think getting the parents involved would be a good thing. Have the students talk to their parents about the commitments that they made. Secondly, accountability. If students really want to keep their commitments start an accountability group or something with them and don’t be afraid to ask the hard questions. Love ya brother and keep up the good work!
Agreed! It is all about getting the people that are around the students more than us, the youth workers involved in their lives. I challenged my students to keep the accountability and fellowship going and not be afraid of what “might” happen.
Thanks bro.
