The journey to knowledge
One of the greatest things in my life has been the privilege of going to Lincoln Christian University. I know I have talked about the college before, both in a good tone and a bad tone. But I would absolutely say that some of the best moments I have ever had has been at Lincoln.
One of the things that I have learned from my teachers is that we need to spend time in the Bible.
But as pastors, we are teaching the bible. So we really have to spend more time?
For some reason, when I was in college, I was TOLD to read the bible so much that I lost my luster for wanting to do any sort of bible reading on my own. I am not sure why that happened in bible college, but it did. Unfortunately. I began to wonder all the time and think that since I was going to bible classes, listening to some of the best preachers and minds I will ever meet, and doing conversations in class, that I didn’t need any more bible in my head. That knowledge was coming from else where.
In the past few months of my life, that direction of thinking has drastically changed. I have had a paradigm shift to wanting to read in general. The bible has been the one book(s) that I have been wanting to read more and more. I have listened to a lot of preachers in the past few months that have said openly that as preachers, we need to be in the bible more than we ever think we need to be.
But how do you separate the time you spend working on a sermon, and teaching volunteers and whatever else may come from the bible, and separate your own quiet time?
Proverbs 1:1-7 says:
” The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth- Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of wise and their riddles. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (ESV)
Ephesians 5:15-17
” Look carefully then how you walk, not as UNWISE but as WISE, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. There fore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the LORD is.” (ESV)
Proverbs 13:20
“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” (ESV)
Wisdom, is what we need to strive after. Wisdom of the Lord, and his path for us in life.
How are you searching? Are you searching?
I am not the best at this, I am just now realizing how much time I should be spending in the word, how much time I as a Christian, need to spend searching for God’s wisdom. So I am no expert or anything, but I know much smarter and much better people out there that do know how to search, and I know that like Solomon said, I want to walk with them and learn from them, so that I can learn how not to be foolish in my life.
Who are you learning from?
Are you searching for wisdom?

Something I wrote on my blog yesterday
“If then you are wise, you will show yourself rather as a reservoir than as a canal. For a canal spreads abroad water as it receives it, but a reservoir waits until it is filled before overflowing, and thus communicates, without loss to itself, its superabundant water. In the Church at the present day, we have many canal, few reservoirs.” —->Saint Bernard of Clairvaux
That about sums it all up for me
Thats a pretty awesome quote my friend! Thanks for the insight.
